essay: Composing an Essay

Composing an Essay

The word ‘composer’ usually brings the thought of music to mind.  A beautiful, intense melody can create a fiery passion within your soul.  Using the literal definition of this term, you will find that a ‘composer’ is anyone who writes something with thought and care.  Thus, an essay, which is written and re-written many times to establish a final composition, is imagined and built by a ‘composer’.  There is no correct way to formulate an essay, but, here is a glimpse at how this essay came to be.

When creating his masterpiece, “Fur Elise”, Ludwig van Beethoven worked diligently hour by hour, day by day.  This same diligence was used here, in my words.  An essay can be very time consuming.  Begin with taking the topic and molding it to fit into one’s personal passions and interests.  ‘Creative mode’ begins by writing the random thoughts that are provoked by your topic.  Think about what you wish to portray to your reader.  Visualize your chosen audience being influenced by your words.

‘Organizing mode’ is the most difficult portion of the essay, choosing what the important aspects of the essay should be.  Beethoven’s fingers pounced from key to key on his piano.  He rearranged the notes until he was completely satisfied with the feel of his music.  Keep in mind that you are organizing your essay into a format.  Make sure that your words flow together in a harmony that entices your readers to continue to the end.  This organized format is considered to be your draft. You may feel frustration at some point and that you could pull your hair out.  Looking at Beethoven’s choice of hair style, he may have felt the exact same way.

Similarly, when Beethoven performed his piece for the first time, you will also need to have one or more of your peers critique your work.  From here, you will write your final essay using their evaluations.  Read your composition aloud so you can hear what your audience will hear.  This essay is your personal “Fur Elise”. Enjoy this moment of triumph.  You have composed an essay which contains your hard work, dedication and personality.

I have spent much of my time, energy, and mind-power creating this masterpiece.  It was difficult organizing my thoughts into a specific order.  The difficulty was well worth the outcome.  I feel like Beethoven when he stood in front of his audience and took a bow as they applauded.  I kept my mind on the finale, and I am proud I reached my goal.  You and I may never be as famous as Beethoven, but nothing can keep us from trying.
